Samsung Fridge Freezer Safety Recall

Samsung Fridge Freezer Safety Recall

So here’s the latest by way of a Product Safety Recall and this one is for Samsung Fridge Freezers which may be similar to the appliance in the picture. This safety recall now affects many of these appliances and not just those which were originally recalled back in 2009. The original recall only covered RS21 and RS60 models sold between March 2005 and June 2006. The recall has now been extended to include many more models regardless of when they were bought.

Samsung is recalling some of their Fridge Freezers because a defect in the defrost system can cause internal sparking which may result in a fire.

However, our research has highlighted that a fire maybe the least to worry about or potentially witness first-hand. Reports going back to 2009 allege that some of these Samsung appliances have ‘exploded’ causing severe damage to the doors and in the case here http://ireport.cnn.com/… a quite horrendous outcome.

In the UK, back in May 2009, this was reported http://www.expressandstar.com/news/… in the West Midlands. Although not 100% conclusive, it would appear that the Samsung appliance may well have been at fault.

We would therefore urge anybody who has a Samsung Fridge Freezer which is either very similar or identical to the model shown above to visit the Samsung website here http://www.samsung.com/uk/… and check to see if yours is affected by this very important Safety Recall. On the same website you’ll also find information on how to contact Samsung by phone along with a very helpful FAQ section.

IMPORTANT: Although extremely inconvenient, if you find that YOUR appliance IS AFFECTED, our best advice (and that of the Electrical Safety Council), is to turn your appliance OFF at the mains until it has been modified.
